Mel laid down the book he was reading as he unfastened the small hair clip which held the right side of his hair back, and looked around the library idly, making sure that people were at the least behaving to an extent that no one was trying to kill someone else.
As he had noted earlier that morning, when he came in to start his new job, the library was really quite well stocked for being in a prison, and he felt there would be more than a few people who might complain about the wasted funds for prisoners who were so bad as to get into the Underground Hotel, or better known as the UGH. But for him, he thought it was fine.
Some of these guys would actually get out before they died, and perhaps reading would help them to find something they needed. It had done it for him when he was a child and needed away from the noise of his brothers and sister for a while. Sure, they were still noisy in the background, but he'd be so immersed in whatever he was reading, he'd hardly notice unless it became necessary.
Content that things seemed peaceful for the moment, he drew his hair back a bit and re-clipped it, before lifting the book he was reading again. Anyone passing by could easily read the title and author, since it was a new book and thus hardbound. In bright letters it read 'Vampire of North Beach: In the Shadows', and below it, it specified the author, King Clayton in just as large, and just as bright, lettering.

Date: 2007-09-23 09:03 pm (UTC)"Hm, let me check." He responded to the question, calling up another area of the library system, and typed in the name. After a moment, he nodded. "Yeah. It came in a day or so ago, so it should be on the shelves. Doesn't seem it's been checked out."

Date: 2007-09-23 09:13 pm (UTC)Yup, Jay and books, was very much like a kid and candy!! The smell of old books, the feel of new books, the first fold of the cover, all of it!! It was like a drug!

Date: 2007-09-23 09:21 pm (UTC)"I haven't read it yet. I prefer classics, or horror best." Mel pulled the book up, typing in the numbers carefully, before glancing to Jay's shirt. He keyed in the number he saw there, adding in the final strokes, before handing to book to Jay. "It's checked out now."

Date: 2007-09-23 09:38 pm (UTC)"That depends. Is the sex recent, or were you doing it while you weren't here? If you weren't doing it before here, then sex fills the gaps between reading."

Date: 2007-09-23 09:45 pm (UTC)To anyone listening it, this conversation would definitely sound like they were both making passes at one another, wouldn't it? And that could be strange, not because they were both men (though, Mel had gotten a few looks off of that type scene) but because of their location and roles.
Still, it was incredibly entertaining, and Mel was not one to hide himself behind a mask if he at all could avoid it. He liked to be very open with everyone.
