WHEN: afternoon?
RATING: PG-13

David knocked on Kain's door. This time however. He was in his work clothes. Freshly cleaned jumpsuit covering his t-shirt. his hair was in a ponytail, his worn leather toolbelt on his hip, with a box labeled AV on the side. He stood quietly. Far detached fromt he man he had been before ... the walls had whispered. And he was quiet.

Kain looked up at the knock. He wasn't really sure he was in the mood to see anyone. There was a mess between Ky, sword and Sen that he was trying to clean up. Some of it was his fault to, if inly he had told Ky the truth. He may not have been in the mood to see anyone, but he also it was his job to let the inmates in and talk or do whatever they pleased to him. Walking to the door, he placed a hand on the nob and pulled it open. He blinked, momentarily confused when he saw David there. Oh! Of course! Kain had asked him to help him install a sound system. "David, Hello." He said with a smile, "Please, come in."

David gave a curt nod. Far unlike the man that had been in here last time. He walked in, looked around, and thought. "Okay. Tell me what you had in mind, and I'll get to work on it" his voice wasn't mean, but ... it wasn't so loving either. it was just. .. professional.

Now Kain was a little more confused. Didn't David.... Kain pushed the thought away. David was on the job, so of course he wouldn't be affectionate with him. There was a time and a place for it. Kain shook his head, getting himself back to reality, "Ummm... Well, I was hoping to have the speakers set up around the walls. Close to the ceiling. And it's important that they can't be seen. And I liked your idea about have the player itself hiding under my desk somehow."

David nodded, "You got the system I'm sure" he said simply. It wasn't just that he was working ... but he had heard some very nasty things while working on one of the machines in the gym. guy's seemed to gossip more than men in these places. but he kept it to himself, and looked

"Oh! of course!" Kain walked over towards the bookshelf. He needed to pull himself together. He was acting more like himself, then Kain and it needed to be stopped. He picked up a box that sat next to the bookshelf and placed it on his desk. It was rather big, and any normal person would wonder how someone Kain's build could lift it so easily. "Here it is." Kain said with a smile.

David opened up the box, and looked over it, "not bad ... pretty decent setup. Even has a wireless remote. Yeah this'll work fine. Alright. i'll start running the cables" David kneeled down and opened up his box, pulling out a humongous coil of clear wire, lookinga round, and starting to measure wire around the room for the speakers, humming to himself, busy in his own little world for a while. It would take him about fifteen minutes to run all the wire, then came back to the desk, pulled out the main box of the stereo, and started to fit it into the desk and work the wires.

Kain went back to his work. Looking over files and giving the warden updates with how well certain inmates were doing. Which ones might be able to apply for parole and which one's should be denied. He couldn't help look up at David every now and then, The tension in the air was almost unbearable. He sat back in the chair he sat in, the one for the inmates when they came in. "Alright. I have to ask. David the last you were in here, I got the impression that you were interested in me. As more of a therapist I mean. And I'm usually never wrong. And now you come in here and act like nothing happened at all. So tell me, what's up?"

David smiled to himself. "Kain ... I thought even you would understand the urges of the body over the mind. You're a therapist. And on top of that you have men falling in love with you all the time. Why would I want to be like everyone else in this place?" he said simply, still working, as he looked up with a charming smile. "You weren't complaining, I wasn't asking questions. If you're miffed about that, I won't be anything but professional to you anymore. But come on now Kain ... I know you don't feel a damned thing for me. I can see it in your eyes" he looked at the man, then turned and went back to hooking the system together, plugging in the stereo. "Besides ... A dove and a shark could fall in love but where would they keep themselves?" he said rather philosophically as he cut the wires to hook up the first set of speakers

Kain looked down at his hands on his desk, "I don't have as many people falling for me as you would think," he mumbled. Kain was suddenly even more confused. Though he was confused about what his mind and heart were telling him. On one hand, he knew that he should stay professional with David, on a client therapist level. But on the other hand, He was liking the idea of having someone fall for him. It didn't happen very often if not at all.
Kain looked up at David, "Well, this dove is able to take on different appearances and would be able to live in the sea." He said and watched for a reaction of any kind.

David gave a breathy chuckle. "i'm not the type of person you'd want to be around more than once in a great while. i've done ... such things that have scarred me mentally and physically ... that you could not even begin to heal. you're a great distraction ... but I'd never assume on any level that you had feelings for me. That'd be crazy. You were doing your job, that's all." He had gotten the speakers hooked up and went to the walls to start working on teh speakers themselves.

Kain stood up suddenly, "Why? Why would it be crazy to think that I am actually capable of emotion? Of feeling something for another human being? You know, I'm so much more than a therapist that goes around fucking people," All characteristics of Kain had left the man. Now it was only Nato who stood in front of David, dressed in Kain's clothes. Kain may not have had feelings for David, but Nato was sure beginning to. "Kain is only a very small part of who I am, and he does what he does for a reason. A reason that obviously you can't see." Nato snorted and made his way to the bedroom, closing the door he came out moments later dressed in his civilian clothing and a lit cigarette in his mouth. "I'll leave you to finish your work," He said heading to the door, hoping against hope that David would stop him.

David looked at the man, standing up, hammer still loosely swinging in his hand, "I'm much more too ... ... i'm more than just this simple minded handyman that runs around here with my damned head cut off. Obviously YOU can't see that I didn't even presume that you fucked ANYONE in this damned place. I said you were a therapist ... so stop shoving words down my gullet. And if you're going to run away ... then fine. your stereo will be waiting. But don't sit there and start getting all hotheaded at me for calling it like you make it seem oh master of illusions" he said simply, tossing the hammer into his other palm to scabbard it.

The problem with Nato was that he didn't think like Kain. Kain was always calm and collected, where Nato was usally all over the place. He stopped with his hand on the doorknob. He took a in a breath and tried to calm himself. "You're right David," He said quietly to the doorknob, "I only let you see what I willing to. The truth is..." He shook his head, "Nevermind. You don't want to hear about it."

"Enlighten me" David said simply, crossing him arms and looking at the man. "I'm all ears" he said simply, tilting his head to one side

Nato was no trying to think of how to voice what was in his head, "I'm nothing like Kain..." He started hoping it would make sense to someone who thought that Kain was his real identity, "Kain can go through life doing what he does and be happier for it. Where I crave attention and want nothing more than to be loved and needed. You were beginning to show to that to me," He finally turned to look at David, popping the cigarette back in his mouth only long enough to take a drag, "And then suddenly withdrew. There has to be another reason, than just I'm your therapist and you're my client."

"Walls and air ducts are thin ..." he said simply, sadly. "i'm not a jealous man by nature ... but I have a thing about not wanting to hear things ... and the last time ... that they had me working on the air ducts" he said softly, bitterly, nearly slicing his finger off with a wire stripper. "then that ... cryptic message in your journal" he added, "If your that confused about it all why make your life so difficult" he said softly. "i'm too much of a hassle as I am now. Imagine me obsessive and needy ... I'd be a constant struggle" he was quoting his ex girlfriend now. He worked on the re-setting of the wires. "There's too much shit inside my head for me to think clearly."

“David..." Kain said softly, "I was confused. I had to get my thoughts down. Hence why it was so cryptic. I didn't really want anyone to know who or what I was talking about just yet." He saisd honestly, though his mind screamed to know what he had heard while in the air ducts. Wasn't this place supposed to be sound proof? Well, I guess no banked on anyone being in the air ducts to hear anything. "And that's what being in a relationship is all about. Taking the good with the bad, and learning to cope with it. I don't plan to change you. People trying to change their paterns too much in relationship and sometimes they lose that person they fell in love with....."

:David looked at the man, "What you see now ... is FAR fromt he man I really am ... the man I am would ... sicken you ... the things I've done ... are worse than most men in this prison .. .yet i'm the one out when they're behind bars ..." he said softly, putting up another speaker. "And though I don't know who you were with that night. I kept hearing a lot of japanese back and forth. I could only pick up a handful of words ... but I knew enough. I spent a few years in tokyo"

Kain shook his head, "But those are only things you've done. They're not who you are. And besides that, I'm not a judging man. And I'm not exactly innocent myself. Though I know I haven't done anything half as bad as the inmates here. Buut that's all relative anyway." Part of him wondered why he was fighting so hard for David, while the rest of him told that part to shut up and keep fighting. "What..... did you hear?"

David had blocked most of it out, but he gave a huff, "The Japanese? Consisted of sweet little nothings between you and some young buck. Voice was familiar but can't place it. Kept calling you Nato ..." he said simply, moving back to finish the last speaker and set the system up, cleaning up as he went along.

Kain smiled a little at that, "David.... that was just a session. It's one part of the session you haven't seen. With the help of some influences I'm able to appear as someone else to people. The someone that person desires. I've been many people in this room..." He took a step closer to David and away from the door, "It's my job."

:"Then if you aren't Kain ... and you aren't this Nato guy ... then who in the bloody bowels of hell are you? " he stood up then, and stared hard at the man. And for just a moment. He felt like his old self. he was standing at direct attention, one hand like it was at a gun, the other at his side. he stared daggers at the man, his face an emotionless mask. he truly looked intimidating for amoment. Perhaps more than one would think

Oh crap... he kinda did imply that he wasn't Nato, didn't he? "I never said I wasn't Nato..." He confessed. Now how to explain why Sen was calling him by his real name... Wait... why was he trying to lie? He sighed, "The person that was here was only doing for me what I do for people." Well, it was the truth. Sen did saythat he was going to give Nato what he wanted. But now looking back on it, if Sen really could do what Kain did. He would be able to collect the information from his journal entry and the form (If Nato had filled it out) that his hidden desire was David.

David relaxed his stance, as if realizing he was standing in interrogatory attention mode, and ran a hand along his ponytail. "You are a very confusing man ... " he said at length, and shook his head as he finished hooking up the system, reached into his av kit, pulled out a cd, popped it in, and played it. It was a far cry from what one would think he would listen to - it was japanese music ... shamizen and soft female chanting to be exact. It flowed through the room freely.

Kain raised an eyebrow at David's comment, "And your not?" He said walking over to David, "You come in here and act as if you want nothing more than to be with me. And then you when I ask for a favor you come back acting as if nothing happened between us. Like it was all just an act." Kain glanced up at the speakers around the room, "And there was more of a reason why I called you here. It wasn't to set up the system. That was just an excuse to get you here." It was true. Kain could have set up the speakers and such myself. He knew what he was doing. He just needed a way to get David in his office without cuasing suspicion among the inmates.

“Honestly? I figured you were just trying to help another person in this place. you never showed me anything more. And I would have to come here to see you. Had you truly been interested. .. I would have expected you to stop by the workshop or something" he said simply, as he looked at the man.

“I thought of that. But I.... Have no idea where it is. Plus I saw you're entry asking if anyone needed anything, so I took the opportunity." He chuckled, "I've just been out of the dating circle for so long that I'm a little bit rusty. Which is kind of ironic, considering I give people dating advice all the time. It's just when it comes to me.... I have a bit of difficulty."

"It's on the third floor next to the gym. It's where I sleep too" he added. It really wasn't that great to sleep on the third level. but he was basically a prisoner here too ... just he got a bit more leeway since his crimes had been done in teh call of duty and not out of duty. but they still were pretty heinous. David looked at him and laughed, "I'm bored. I ran out of wood for my statues" he said simply, "Met my quota on balsa wood for the month. Haven't gotten to sell any yet though"

Kain looked at David confused. What the hell was he going on about? One moment Kain was talking about dating and then next David was talking about wood and statues. Kain searched his mind to try to figure out if it had some hidden sexual meaning. Wood... Statues.... Nothing was coming up. "What?" He said at length, really confused.

David shook his head. He tended to switch subjects. "I came in here ... the last time ... because I was bored ... I finally figured if I wanted to spend time with anyone I'd have to come to them." he said simply. "you're the only person I've ever really spoken to in this place.

Kain suddenly saw how unfair that was. David always going to people, people never coming to him. "It must get very lonely." He said quitely and then after a moment, "David. Is there any chance? For us?"

David considered the question, "Perhaps ... I wouldn't say there's noc hance in hell ... I know i'm personally stubborn as hell. And yeah. It does get lonely. i'm in a workshop most of the time. So I carve statues. Keeps my hands busy. Then when I go up to the surface I sell them to art stores."

Kain nodded, "I would love to see these statues of yours." He said honestly. He'd always be a fan of art. Especially art done by hand.

David smiled, "I have a few you might like. I finished a really large one of a black panther" he siad softly.

Kain looked back at the door "Do you... have time now?" He asked hopeful.

" I suppose if you wanna see them" He said simply, putting his tools away and standing up. He walked to the door, and turned. "Just follow me" They'd have to go down another level, and past the cells to his workroom which shared a wall with the gym. It was supposed to be for the inmates but no one was ever there besides him.

Kain nodded and followed, "What kind of figures do you make?" He asked. and then realized what a stupid question it was. He had just told Kain that he made panther.

"Depends on my mood. Things I've seen in real life, pictures ... ideas ... sometimes I sketch it out beforehand. Others I just go from memory" he unlocked the workshop and clicked on the light. Along a homemade shelf sat a good dozen statues, in polished woods of didferent types. Dragons, lions, totem poles, and the large panther he had talked about. It was a rather large piece, of a panther stalking through underbrush.

Kain walked over to the statues and took his time looking at them all, "They're beautiful," He said to no one in particular. He gently picked up the panther and carefully ran his fingers across it, "You're very talented, David."

David moved his boxes and set the AV box on the shelf with the others. He lived so simply. It was almost as if he were in his own barracks. There was a cot, and a large green trunk, a simple wood nightstand with a few items on it, and a small curio for his clothes. he sat down on the bed, and rubbed his eyes. "just bored I believe is what you mean. "

Kain placed the panther back on it's table gently and shook his head, turning to look at David, "No. I could be bored and try to create something like that and would fail miserably. You have a talent for it. All I'm good at is writing poems and music...." Of course he talking in the artistic sense.

"It's something to do with my hands" he said simply, as he looked around, "if you would like one ... you may have one" he said simply, "Take your pick. I don't mind giving them away on occasion" he said softly, gave him a faint smile, and gently tilted his head to one side

Kain smiled and picked up the panther, "I think he would look good on my bookshelf in my office." He placed it back down on the table, "I'll keep him there until I leave." He walked over to David and sat down beside him on the bed. They were silent for a moment. Kain felt like an awkward teenager on a first date. So he decided to get the ball rolling and tell David about himself, "My real name is Nato. I was born in Kyoto and moved to Tokyo when I was 14. My family, well, my father is extremely religious and enrolled me in the church when I was 17. He wanted me to become a priest. I was engaged to my childhood friend when we were 18. And when I was 19 I broke up with her and got kicked out of the church because I discovered I was gay. When I was 23, Kain was born. And I started a business, doing basically what I do here. And have been doing it for almost 3 years now." He stopped, wondering if he had told David too much.

David nodded, and smiled, letting the words file themselves away. He figured, he might as well return the favor. "I was an orphan. My father slaughtered my mother after I was a year old ... went into foster care in New Jersey til i was 18, and joined the Marines. Was in active duty in Tokyo for a year, then was transferred to Russia, where they lent me to a mercenary band called the Black Arms. I spent the next five years killing high end commanders of armies in Russia, Kosovo, china, and Korea, making a hefty profit for each, until i was captured, and sent back to the US as a traitor to my country. The best they could do, is require me to stay in a prison, not as an inmate, but as a worker. So until my trial comes up I'm stuck here." he said simply "Never had a fiance, only had one girlfriend. Pretty boring stuff" he said simply.

Kain chuckled, "Is that really all the sickening things you've done? David, It's...." He paused trying to figure out how to word this, "It's really not all that bad. People kill other people, it's human nature. The strongest kill the weakest. It's how many animals survive."

"But ... the ways ... they had me kill them ... it wasn't a slow death Kain ... they had me torturing them ... sometimes for MONTHS ... I was the Devil to these men" he said simply.

Kain smiled and placed a hand on David's knee, "I don't care about all that. Like I said. It's only things you've done. It's not who you are. And I'm still here aren't I? You haven't scared me away."

David looked at the man, "Well. At least you should know what I've done. it's at least the best thing to do" he said softly, as he sat on the rather uncomfortable seeming bed.

Kain shrugged, "And now I know. And I'm still not going anywhere." He kinda felt like they were dragging the subject on more than they should. As if they were grasping for something to talk about. He sighed slightly, "David?" He began not really sure how to ask him, "Will you be with me? I mean me, Nato. Not Kain."

David looked at him, and thought about it. "Yes ... I don't want an act ... i don't want what everyone else sees. And if that act is for everyone else fine ... if that act is what they see. I only want to see you and be the only one to see you. I don't mind if Kain ... as you say ... does his thign ... but I want ... you ... as mine and no other's" he said simply, "I cannot help that I'm a jealous man. I became that way from the way I was raised. If that isn't possible, then i don't want to hurt you when something bad happens from it"

Kain's heart soared when he heard David's answer. Part of him couldn't believe it. But he quickly kicked that part away. He nodded to what David said, "I don't mind if you're jealous. It just means you care. And I will be exclusive to you. Kain's another story but... we don't have to talk about what goes on in my office." He sat there grinning at David like a school boy with crush. What did one do now that you just had someone agree to be in relationship with you? Especially someone who was new to the whole gay culture? Well, he would have to do something he couldn't just sit there and grin at the man. So he leaned forward and kissed him.

David gently kissed the man, letting his hand run along the other man's cheek. He was gentle as he could be, and let his fingertips run along the man's hair, closing his eyes for the moment .

Kain deepened the kiss slightly, though there was no hunger or lust behind it. He was just enjoying being here with David like this. His own hands coming up to rest on strong shoulders, one slipping behind David's neck to play with the ponytail let laid there.

David groaned softly and let his hands rest on the other man, his body moving a little closer. he felt like he was in high school again behind the bleachers ... but this wasn't a girl from the drama class, this was K-Nato ... he corrected himself.

Well, if David wanted to be closer, who was Nato to say no? He parted from the kiss, only long enough to climb on David's lap and straddle him, before moving in to kiss the man again. He pressed his torso right up against David's.

David chuckled for a moment as he felt the cot groan under the weight of the two of them, David gently continuing the kissing, his hands stroking through the other man's hair, and down the front of th eman's chest, purring into the other man's lips.

Nato took a hold of the tie that held David's hair back and removed it from the man's hair. Now his fingers were free to entangle themselves into his locks. He never realized how much he wanted this until now. He loved being with David like this. Feeling the man's strong body pressed against his. He loved everything about David, he was his ideal partner.

Feeling his hair pulled down he smiled and pressed closer. He knew his accomodations weren't the best, but for now, he only cared about the man now sitting against his slowly growing erection, his hands running down the man's back, nails tracing along his spine.

Nato shivered as David ran his hand down his back and he moaned into the kiss, rocking his hip lightly against David's. He slid his tongue into the other man's mouth and explored.

David groaned as he felt Nato's tongue invade his mouth. he groaned, and pulled the man closer, rubbing his hands down to the man's backside, pulling him closer, as he closed his eyes, getting a bit more feverish in his actions

Nato was a little surprised. He honestly didn't they would.... well have sex. But it seemed that it was going to happen the more they sat there and kissed. And Nato wasn't going to complain. And David seemed to be taking control and Nato would let him. He liked it when David got like this. Nato rocked his hips again, a little more harder than before. His hands went to David's jumpsuit and began undoing it, a little annoyed to find a t shirt underneath.

David pulled back for a second, and looked up at Nato, smiling, "My bed's really not that comfy ... you sure you want to go further?" he said, a bit of concern in his voice. he didn't want to harm the man that was so kindly throwing himself atop him.

Nato smiled down at him, "It doesn't matter to me. My desk isn't all that comfy either, but..." He trailed off thoughtful, "It's up to you." He said simply.

David pulled back a little, and for once, he blushed. "Why is it up to me?" he said softly, stroking his knuckles around Nato's cheek.

Nato tried not to smile when he saw the blush on David's face. "Well, because I'm content just being here with you and not doing anything. I'll be happy whether we do or whether we don't." He paused, "Just because we're together now, doesn't mean we have to have sex everytime we see each other."

David nodded, and smiled, as if relieved. He gently laid his head on the man's shoulder. "It's weird.... I would have never thought i would do thing slike this"

Nato chuckled, "Life is full of surprises. We even surprise ourselves sometimes." He said as he ran his fingers lovingly through David's hair. He was happy David had permission to go to the surface. He didn't want to risk his neck every time he wanted to go on a date with the man. "If you like we could just go grab something to eat? Maybe go to a show?"

"You mean ... out on topside?" he thought for a moment, "Well ... okay. I'll have to go through the guards and get a pass out, but if they're not there I won't get incarcerated for being out. they just don't want me going out without them knowing." he said simply, "I'd do anything ... doesn't matter to me. i'm not a picky man"

Nato chuckled. They were back to being awkward for the time being. Well, it happened at the beginning of every relationship he supposed. He climbed off David and looked at him. "I don't mean to sound rude, but you may want to shower before we go." He said with a friendly smile.

David blushed in a bit of embarassment, and nodded his head, "Alright ... I'll head on to the showers ... " he was pretty damned embarassed now, as he moved to stand up, but couldn't because he had Nato on his lap. he wondered when it stopped being awkward.

Nato stepped aside to let David stand. He turned and picked up the panther, "I'll take him back to my office and wait for you there." He leaned in and kiss David softly. He smiled at the man gently as he made his way back to his office.
