Who: Sen, Damon, Kain, (Lawr briefly).
When: Shortly after Mutou’s announcement.
Where: Infirmary, then the morgue.
What: Seeing the proof for himself.
Rating: PG-13
The weight of Mutou's words hung heavy on Sen's heart. He wasn't even sure how he had managed to walk to the Infirmary - but he needed to see for himself, needed to know this was real and not some cruel nightmare he hadn't woken from. His legs work on auto-pilot as he enters the Infirmary. "I.... I need to see him..." He calls out, voice shaky, threatening to crack any moment.
Damon turns from his desk and sees Sen come in, "Sen..." Kain suddenly appears. Coming from the back of the infirmary. He walks over to Sen and holds his arms out to him, "Sen. I don't think that's such a good idea."
Sen fights back the tears filling his eyes, wiping at them in an attempt to stop them from falling. "Please.... I need to see him..."
Kain comes over and pulls Sen into an embrace, "Is that how you want your last memory of seeing him to be?"
The tears start to roll down Sen's cheeks and he clings to Kain. "I... need to see for myself." He rubs at his eyes again, wiping away tears as best as he can. "...What happened?"
Kain and damon looked at each other for a brief moment, "He was stabbed." Damon explained.
Sen frowned, his brows furrowing. "...Stabbed? By who?" Of course there was a huge list of people with grudges against Sword... but this just seemed so unreal.
Damon was silent for a moment, "The Warden."
Sen wasn't sure he had heard that correctly. Surely he had misheard? "Travis Mutou? ... But.... why?!"
"Because that bastard tried to kill him!!" Lawr suddenly appeared at the door way, holding on to his IV rack and his side with each hand. Damon turned, "Lawrence. You shouldn't be walking around. You could rip your stitches."
"What the fuck do you know?!" Sen hissed at Lawrence. "Everything was just fine until you showed up!! Mutou and Sword were working things out!"
"If you don't believe go and look at Travis' throat yourself!"
Sen let out a frustrated growl, wrapping his arms around himself. "I don't need this shit. Where's Sword?! I want to see him. Now."
"Alright." Kain said softly, "I'll take you to him." If for nothing else than spilting the two inmates up.
Sen nodded, following Kain, shooting a glare at Lawrence.
Kain brought Sen up to the second level and went into the prison's morgue. He opened the sliding refrigeration unit Sword was in and unzipped the body the body bag to reveal Sword's face. He looked lifeless and a little blue.
Sen stood silently for a long moment, staring at the lifeless body. Tears rolled down his cheeks, dripping onto his chest.
Kain went to go be close to Sen, his back turned to the camera, "Just remember that you'll see him again one day." He said, the expression on his face told Sen that there was more going on here than what appeared.
Sen swallowed hard, really not understanding what was happening. He moved closer to the body, reaching out a shaky hand, but not able to bring himself to touch Sword's face.
"Are you ready to go?" Kain asked quietly.
Sen shook his head. "Not yet..."
"Take your time..."
Sen wiped away his tears, his eyes becoming red and swollen. He stared at the body, mulling words over in his head. "Idiot... You're a idiot Sword... And selfish too!! How can you leave me behind?! How am I meant to carry on without you? What were you thinking??" he let out a heavy sigh, shaking a little.
"You're strong, Sen. You can go on." Kain said softly.
Sen shook his head, crying harder, holding himself. "It hurts.... so much."
Kain came to embrace Sen gently, "I know. But I promise things will get better."
Sen sobbed in Kain's arms. "It's not fair... Things were finally going well for us... I was so happy... I'd never been that happy before and now I just feel empty and cold and sick."
"I know." Kain rubbed Sen's back, "I think we should go." He turned and began to zip up the body bag.
Sen turned away, he simply couldn't watch. He lay an arm on the wall, resting against it to stop himself collapsing.
Kain closed the draw and took Sen in his arms again, leading him out.
Sen sobbed in Kain's arms. "Can I sit your room awhile? I can't face going back to the cells... not yet. They'll all be staring and the cell... it's full of too many memories..."
"Of course."
Once in Kain's room, Sen moved straight to the bathroom, vomiting violently into the toilet.
While Sen was in the bathroom, Kain went through his filing cabinet until he found what he was looking for. He waited for Sen to come back out again.
Sen flushed the toilet. Rinsed his mouth and washed his face with icy cold water, before walking out again, sitting in one of the chairs.
"I think you should see this." He handed a folder over to Sen, Inside was a note Sword began write two days ago but didn't get to finish. Wait for me. to unite as one.... He seemed to have stopped midthought. "He didn't get to finish it. The guards were snooping around."
Sen stared at the note for a long moment. "To unite as one...." He let out a heavy sigh.
"Does it make sense to you?"
Sen shook his head. "Not really. I thought we were pretty much united already... Although... no... nevermind."
Kain shrugged, "If you say so."
Sen pointed at the note. "May I keep this?"
"Of course."
He placed the note in his pocket and sat back down, staring at the floor. Subconsciously, he ran a hand over the collar around his neck.
