who: Meea
what: Last day
when: Early morning
Random Guard Bob heads down the walkway, stopping in front of Meea's cell. He raps on the bars to get the inmate's attention. "Come on, kid. It's time."
Meea looks up from his bunk, shoving a picture into his pocket. "Yeah, okay." He slides down with a weak smile for Gabriel. "You can have all my stuff. I don't need it where I'm going." He shakes the other man's hand then turns to Bob. "Ready when you are."
The guard nods and places a hand on Meea's shoulder as they walk.
Meea walks silently by Random Guard Bob, lifting a hand now and then to wave good-bye to various people.
Betty blinks, watching them pass. "Meea? Meea are you leaving already?" Fat, crocodile tears flood his cheeks as he glomps Meea with a sob. "Oh my god, I'm going to miss you so much. It's not fair! It's just not fair. Nothing is ever fair!"
Meea chuckles softly as he returns the hug. "It'll be okay, Betty. You just keep being awesome, kay?"
Random Guard Bob clears his throat.
Betty slowly lets Meea go with a sniff. "Thanks for being nice to me, Meea."
Meea leans over to kiss Betty's cheek. "My pleasure."
Bob places a hand on Meea's shoulder again, urging him forward.
The inmate complies, walking with his head down. A strange little smile plays on his lips. There is no struggle, no fear. He glances briefly over his shoulder to see Betty sobbing on Bruno and Brian holding that pair of books to his chest. Offering them one last wave, he moves through the heavy black door, dropping his hand once it slams shut.
